Wintertree Software has a number of spelling checker products that suit a variety of purposes. It can be confusing to know which one best suits your needs.

Wintertree Software has several products that can spell-check text areas on Web/HTML forms. Click the link below that best describes your situation:
If your Web server is IIS and your application runs under ASP or .NET, Wintertree Spelling Server is the best choice.
You can use Wintertree Spelling Server in your ASP/VBScript or VB.NET/C#.NET applications to check spelling of text entered in HTML forms.
Your application can interact with the user via HTML forms to correct spelling errors. Click the "Check Spelling" button on Wintertree Software's Contact page for an example of how this works (be sure to enter some text in the "Message" text area first).
You can add a small (11K) applet to your forms. The applet will communicate with a script running on your server. The script performs the spell-checking, and the applet interacts with the user to dispose of spelling errors.
Some familiarity with ASP/VBScript or VB.NET/C#.NET programming is needed to use Wintertree Spelling Server.
Click here to find out more about Wintertree Spelling Server.
If your server can run Java servlets, Sentry Spelling Checker Engine Java SDK is a good choice.
Sentry Java SDK comes with a collection of servlet examples that demonstrate typical web-based spelling checker applications. Click here for an on-line demonstration.
The Sentry Java spelling engine can be used wherever Java is supported: client, server, or a combination solution.
Some Java programming skill is needed to integrate the Sentry Java spelling engine into a Java servlet application.
Sentry Java SDK is licensed on a per-developer basis. A servlet with the Sentry Java spelling engine integrated into it can be deployed on as many servers as you like with no additional fees to pay.

If your clients use a variety of browsers or platforms, Wintertree Spell Check Applet is the best choice.
Wintertree Spell Check Applet runs entirely on the client.
Wintertree Spell Check Applet works with a broad range of browsers on all platforms.
Wintertree Spell Check Applet can check the spelling of text areas in your forms.
Because the entire spelling checker and its dictionaries must be downloaded to the client, Wintertree Spell Check Applet is best suited for situations where all clients have high-speed connections to the server (e.g., intranets). We don't recommend this product if some clients connect over slow dial-up connections. Instead, consider using a server-based spelling checker such as Wintertree Spelling Server.
If your clients are the general Internet community (i.e., you have a public Web site), we recommend a server-based spelling solution such as Wintertree Spelling Server rather than a client-based solution such as Wintertree Spell Check Applet. In addition to the slow-connection problem noted above, some clients in the general Internet community run old browser versions which may not support the features needed by Wintertree Spell Check Applet to operate. This can lead to increased client frustration. The form-based interaction used by our server-side products works with all browsers.
Virtually no programming is needed to use Wintertree Spell Check Applet. Familiarity with HTML is required.
Click here for more information on Wintertree Spell Check Applet.
If all of your clients use Internet Explorer under Windows (9x, NT, 2000, Me, etc.), consider WSpell.
WSpell runs entirely on the client.
WSpell includes a digitally signed CAB file. The CAB file is downloaded and installed by Internet Explorer. The CAB file is usually downloaded only once, so WSpell is suitable even when the clients connect using slow dial-up connections.
Virtually no programming is needed to use WSpell. Familiarity with HTML is required. Be forewarned, however: Internet Explorer is very unforgiving and offers little in the way of help with problems in ActiveX controls (such as WSpell) embedded in Web pages.
If you would like to create a custom applet with a built-in spelling checker, consider Sentry Spelling Checker Engine Java SDK.

If you need to check the spelling of text in Web/HTML forms you create, but aren't sure of which approach (client-based, server-based, or client/server) is right for you, see Add a spell checker to your Web pages for an overview of Wintertree Software's Web-based spelling products and discussion of the pros and cons of each.
If you are an Internet user looking for a way to spell check text you enter in Web forms, try the following:
Contact your browser manufacturer. They may have plug-ins available that can spell-check text.

Wintertree Software has two products you can use to integrate a spelling checker into Windows applications you develop.
We recommend Sentry Spelling Checker Engine Windows SDK if your application is written in C, C++, C#, VB.NET, MFC, Access, Delphi, PowerBuilder, or other languages/development environments that can call DLLs. Click here to find out more about the Sentry Windows SDK.
We recommend WSpell ActiveX Spelling Checker if your application is written in Visual Basic (VB). Click here to find out more about WSpell.
Click here for information on the differences between Sentry Windows SDK and WSpell.
The Sentry Spelling Checker Engine Java SDK is the best choice for adding a spelling checker to your Java applications.
The Sentry Spelling Checker Engine Source SDK includes ANSI C source code which can be compiled and linked with C/C++ applications developed on the Macintosh. Familiarity with the C language and C compilers is required.
