Sentry Spelling-Checker Engine for Java

Synopsis

  • A class library developers can use to add a spell checker to their Java applications, applets, and servlets.

  • Includes a class library compatible with JDK 1.x and 2 (J2SE and J2EE) and 100,000 word American, Canadian, and UK English dictionaries.
  • The Sentry engine can spell-check words, Strings, and the contents of Swing JTextComponents (including JTextField, JTextArea, and JTextPane), plus AWT TextArea components. JTextComponents can be checked in the background (as-you-type spellchecking). Source code for example Swing and AWT applications and working servlets is included.
  • Applications can also call the Sentry API to check spelling and look up suggested replacements for misspelled words directly (click here for more information).

Works with

  • Java JDK 1.x and Java 2 (J2SE and J2EE) on any platform supported by Java. Can be used in applets running under any Web browser and in servlets.

Effort needed to integrate with your application

  • To check spelling of text in a TextArea or JTextArea using a sample dialog: Just add 1 statement to your code

  • To check spelling of text in a String using a sample dialog: Just add 1 statement to your code
  • To check spelling or look up suggestions without a user interface or using your own user interface: 20-300 lines of code (depending on requirements).
